Why Plus Five Gear?

For those of you who grew up with the original paper and pencil RPG's, this already should make sense.

I always wondered what it would like to go through life with a "+2 Pencil of Sharpness"  or perhaps a "+3 Vorpal Aluminum Bat".

For those that don't know, special magical items in RPG's were quite often refered to based on how well they increased the fictitious character's chances of accomplishing something.  The highest of these increases was generally accepted to be +5.  So instead of saying "This is my lucky magical sword!", most gamer geeks would refer to the items in gamer speak, as witnessed above.

In life, while it's far more important to know what you are doing, having items that compliment your skills only makes sense.  Sure I can cut a tree down with a hard glance and my Pure Awesomeness, but instead, I'd probably find it best to find a good saw to do so with.  Personally I'd hope for a +5 Saw of Tree Cutting... but we know the world simply does not work that way.  Sadly we are stuck at the mercy of a person at a store who probably hasn't used a saw in their lives.  OR... We can read about which saw will do the job on the internet.

So I'm going to do my best to show you the ins and outs of things I've used to help you make your decisions as you try to maximize your chances for success at anything you do.
